Finding a speaker for an event can sometimes be a daunting challenge. How do you really know if he or she will bring the right mix of knowledge and enthusiasm to the room?

Event Garde is proud to introduce ReviewMySpeaker.com, a resource dedicated to helping you find the perfect match.

Last year, a group of 12 state societies of association executives partnered with Whorton Marketing & Research and Event Garde to conduct a survey of education, meeting and professional development activities. The survey found 22 percent of respondents spend $25,000 or more on speakers per year and at least 30 percent ask speakers to engage in other elements of a meeting.

So, finding the right speaker is critically important to success.

As such, ReviewMySpeaker.com allows speakers to upload their profiles, highlighting the value he or she can add to a meeting. At the same time, industry professionals can review speakers, offering honest insight and valuable feedback.

Some tips:

  • Research has found that a four-star review is generally the most trusted.
  • Responding to reviews is a best practice, and helps increase the number of reviews. That said, responses should be to a wide audience, rather than just to an individual reviewer.
  • Reviews should be shared via social media and publicly to provide transparency and to leverage engagement.

More tips can be found in the resources section, where Event Garde also provides suggested templates for asking clients to review a speaker.

For example: Can I ask a little favor? As a supporter of a review site called ReviewMySpeaker.com, could I trouble you for five minutes of your time? Just navigate to ReviewMySpeaker.com and select “Review a Speaker” to get started. It’s really quick and simple, plus you'll be helping your peers by providing your valuable insights and experience.

ReviewMySpeaker.com offers a getting started guide to help users engage. For example, users can connect on Facebook and Twitter. And there’s a tutorial on Facebook.

So, give it a whirl and let us know what you think. Please send your feedback to [email protected].
