Our Gardian of the Month is Jennifer Briggs the CEO of Texas Society of Architects.
EG: What type of environment/setting do you find that you learn best in?
JB: I learn best in a setting where there’s a speaker or facilitator and then time to dive into the topic with your counterparts. I learn so much hearing from others’ experiences and specific examples of how they could put what they’ve learned to good use.
EG: What volunteer opportunities have you found most successful in expanding your network?
JB: Volunteering with your local society of association executives is a great way to expand your network locally. Believe me, when I first moved to Texas after a long career in Indiana the first thing I did was join the Texas Society of Association Executives. To network nationally I love to volunteer to facilitate discussions or work on a collaborative on a research project. Lately I’ve joined a book club with other association folks, and it has been enlightening, fun and a great way to meet new people.
EG: What is something you most enjoy teaching others?
JB: I will talk about change management all day long if I could! This is something I love discussing and breaking down. I think a lot of people have the right ideas, but don’t know how to implement change. I’m certainly not perfect at it, but it’s something I study and work on all the time.
EG: Just for Fun - What is your favorite season and what brings you the most joy during that time of year?
JB: Oh seasons! I miss those. In Austin, Texas it’s different levels of warm to hot aside from the 2 days a year it might be cold. When I got to experience seasons, spring was it for me. As much as I disliked being cold, the reawakening of spring and coming out of that cold season to flowers and sunshine and getting back outside was always invigorating and I miss that sort of transformation.
EG: What is a resource that has been valuable to you in your work, and what makes you appreciate it?
