Our Gardian of the Month is Sharon Newport, CAE.
EG: If you could learn one skill instantly, what would it be? Why?
SN: I’d like to be a better writer.
EG: What are ways you’ve developed your professional network over the years?
SN: I find that being friendly, authentic, and curious about what others care about makes it’s easy to strike up conversations - in person or virtually - and build from there. It also helps to seek out what you may have in common to build connection and make it a memorable first conversation.
EG: What role do you think feedback and reflection should play in the workplace?
SN: I think feedback and reflection should be a daily occurrence that happens multiple times a day. Having reflection rituals throughout the day is a game changer. Even if you have to take a bathroom break to do it - step away, look outside, take a deep breath, maybe reset a few times a day, and be intentional throughout the day. Learning how to deliver and receive feedback effectively is a critical skill that is supportive and helps to improve relationships.
EG: Just for Fun - What is one thing you’ve always wanted to do that might surprise other people?
SN: Be a singer.
EG: What is a resource that has been valuable to you in your work, and what makes you appreciate it?
