Our Gardian of the Month is Tim Hopkins, CAE, Managing Director for McKinley Advisors.
EG: What is a topic you are currently interested in learning more about, but have yet to pursue?
TH: Video editing. It's effective in communicating ideas and now with AI even more efficient. I would love to dive deeper into how to consistently record, edit and deploy creative messages that connect people and ideas. It's important in helping build connections, spread knowledge and align people to meaningful missions to improve the world and improve humanity.
EG: What are ways you’ve developed your professional network over the years?
TH: I became a member of ASAE years ago and it's continued to provide branch after branch of wonderful connections to help expand my network, friendship tree and generally find like-minded individuals looking to help support people and the planet.
EG: What strategies do you employ to encourage knowledge sharing within your team or organization?
TH: I consume a lot of content. Reading and listening to books (ebooks paired with audio are my preference for listening and highlighting content), especially. I surround myself with people who are smarter than me, ask questions and remain curious. On the deployment side, I love sharing content I find interesting with my network, my team at McKinley, and friends and family. I'm always amazed at the growth and learning possibilities by sharing something I find interesting or curious, and the wonderful conversations that can be had from that place.
EG: What is your favorite hobby and how did you get into it?
TH: I love watching Liverpool soccer/futbol games. I got into it after a World Cup several years back, when one of my younger brothers and I bonded. I'd been a casual fan but we build a great connection and decided to become full-time fans. He and I visited fan events for a few months before finally deciding Liverpool embodied the culture of welcome, belonging and high quality sport we wanted to follow. The rest is history. Lots of leadership lessons followed, we've both since had 2 kids each and expanded our fandom into deeper family experiences with bonding that is hard to beat.
EG: What is a resource that has been valuable to you in your work, and what makes you appreciate it?
