The Gardian of the Month is Jennifer Amin, director of marketing and membership for AORE and Event Garde.
Q: Learn: What’s one subject you’d like to learn more about?
A: I love learning about psychology and sociology as they apply to business - like what factors go into people making certain decisions or how you can influence those decisions. I can never learn enough about this topic.
Q: Network: Some people are wallflowers while others are natural networkers. Which are you (or are you in the middle)?
A: I am definitely a natural networker. I am a people person to my core and pride myself on being able to find a way to connect with anyone.
Q: Transfer: Let’s say you just attended a certification course. What would be your first step in applying what you learned?
A: I am a “doer.” Once I have learned something, I like to jump right in and put it into practice. I then decide whether it works for me, or needs to be tweaked.
Q: Please share with us a resource you can’t live without.
A: I think this sort of ties back into question one, but my favorite book is “The Tipping Point” by Malcolm Gladwell. It breaks down the concept of what factors take part in an idea, brand or concept taking off, as well as the type of people who influence this movement.
Q: If you were writing a book about your life, what would the title be, and why?
A: The title would probably be, “What a Hell of a Ride!” I have never had much patience. It is just not a quality that I possess. It has been both a good and a bad thing. I am also incredibly stubborn and tenacious. If I want something, I will find a way to make it happen. I started walking at nine months, mastered high school English my freshman year and graduated high school at the age of 16. I tend to go after what I want and it has taught me some hard life lessons, but has also given me the opportunity to have both personal and professional opportunities that will definitely make for some great stories to tell my grandchildren some day.
