Gardian

Q and A with Lisa Aukward, manager of member and partner relations for Event Garde/AORE.

Q: Learn: Let’s say you’re helping your child or friend with some homework. What's your strategy for helping them learn a difficult topic?
A: First, I assess their knowledge of the subject by asking a series of questions. These questions will also help them develop critical thinking skills to approach the problem through various lenses. I then help them flush out the least logical solutions.

Q: Network: Some people are wallflowers while others are natural networkers. Which are you (or are you in the middle)?
A: I am an extrovert and do not have difficulty networking.

Q: Transfer: Let’s say you just attended a certification course. What would be your first step in applying what you learned?
A: The first step would be to implement the easy solutions or tactics that do not require much effort or major adjustments. Then develop a plan and timeline to implement the new and more complex elements.

Q: Please share with us a resource you can’t live without.
A: Most frequented website: ASAE. It has many options to discuss and test theories with peers. Most read/re-read books: “Laws of Leadership” by John Maxwell and the Bible. There are no words to describe the value in the leadership and ethical life lessons provided in both books.

Q: What is your favorite season and why
A: Fall because of football, pumpkin cheesecake and the endless supply of apple doughnuts.
