Q & A with Kristina Kauffman, events and CTA manager for the Greater Lansing Convention and Visitors Bureau

Q: Learn: Learn: Let’s say you’re studying for a big exam. Are you a crammer, or do you like to plan ahead?

A: I like to plan ahead. Sometimes it works out and other times I end up being a crammer, but I’m not comfortable with it.

Q: Network: How do you help a wallflower, who’s not comfortable networking at a professional event, loosen up?

A :I would introduce them to people and try to find others that may have commonalities. It makes theconversations comfortable.

Q: Transfer: Tell us about an experience in which you learned something new and then applied it to your personal or professional life.

A: I would have to say it has been my experience with the Certified Tourism Ambassador Program. I joined the program when the GLCVB launched it in 2010 and after taking the class and becoming an ambassador for greater Lansing it sparked my love for the area. I used the tools learned in the CTA program in my job and it led to increased roles within the GLCVB. Nine years later I’ve come full circle, running the program for the GLCVB as CTA program manager.

Q: Please share with us a resource you can’t live without.

A: The phone app I cannot live without is Alarmed. It is there for me to set reminders (with a timer) on the fly. I can set a time to remind me and add notes if needed. It also includes timers.

Q: What’s your favorite vacation spot and why?

A: This was difficult to answer as I find it depends on the people you’re with. I like summer as long as I am by water and also love the snow. My favorite vacation spot includes my family and or friends and all-inclusive!
