Millennials will soon be replaced by Gen Z, according to a recent story in Bloomberg.
Gen Z will make up 32 percent of the global population of 7.7 billion in 2019, a Bloomberg analysis found.
And this presents a challenge not only for employers, but also educators and event planners. This wave of young professionals has a great sense of self-awareness and therefore knows exactly what it wants, the story says. And this means events and educational opportunities need to be spot-on.
“Each generation comes with a unique set of behaviors and presents a unique set of challenges for those looking to reach them,” according to a report by research firm Nielsen Holdings Plc. “Gen Z are bombarded with messages and are a generation that can quickly detect whether or not something is relevant to them.”
Good news for wallflowers: Networking may be as effective on LinkedIn as it is in real life.
That’s according to Business.com, which provides some tips for using LinkedIn to build personal and professional networks.
Users should make their profiles stand out, making sure each section is complete, the story says. Once a user’s profile is complete, he or she needs to connect with people in the industry – even if they’re strangers. Other tips: Post engaging content and join LinkedIn groups.
There’s a lack of knowledge sharing in many companies and that could be holding back employees, says a recent HR Dive story.
Employees who hoard information for job security or who don’t make time to share knowledge with others create a frustrating dynamic.
Employers need to ask a few questions to determine if there’s a knowledge sharing problem, said JD Dillon, principal learning strategist at Axonify, in the story.
What do to if there’s a problem?
HR Dive says it starts at the top. Managers and leaders should create a culture in which sharing of knowledge and resources is encouraged. Cross-training can also be effective, allowing employees to learn different sets of skills.
